Fuel price trends update 29 July 2024
Adelaide motorist are the big winners this week with the lowest average of all the capitals – a whopping 40c/L under the current Brisbane average! It may not last long though as we expect to see signs of a new price cycle in Adelaide in the coming week.
The latest price cycle has been slow to spread across Sydney. The average unleaded 91 price has risen considerably; however, there are still a significant number of locations posting prices in the 160s to 170s. Sydney’s price cycle is nearing its peak overall, with the current unleaded 91 average at 207.5cpl and a price range over the last week of 159.5cpl to 235.9cpl. Some pockets have already seen discounting activity, and as a result, the average is not expected to climb much higher before it starts to come down again.
In a very similar way to Brisbane, Melbourne is seeing the first signs of the new price cycle, with the peak price also following Sydney’s precedent at 219.9cpl. The current unleaded 91 average is 187.0cpl, with a price range over the last week of 165.9cpl to 228.0cpl. The latest price cycle in Melbourne has been slower to spread and is lagging behind Brisbane considerably, with still only a small percentage of retailers having put their prices up to 219.9cpl so far, to the benefit of motorists there.
The new price cycle has begun in Brisbane, with 219.9cpl likely to be the peak price to spread across the city in the coming week or so. The current unleaded 91 average is 199.3cpl, with a price range over the last week of 168.7cpl to 223.9cpl. The price cycle in Brisbane is taking hold now, and we are seeing the average unleaded 91 price rise quickly as more retailers increase their prices to 219.9cpl.
Adelaide prices are going up to 219.9cpl quickly! The current unleaded 91 average is 190.9cpl, with a price range over the last week of 165.9cpl to 224.7cpl. There are still a small number of locations that haven’t jumped up yet, but it won’t be long. Adelaide is now in the discount phase of its price cycle after the recent high of 219.9cpl.
Perth average prices were down very slightly last week. The current unleaded 91 average is 176.3cpl, with a price range over the last week of 162.7cpl to 220.9cpl. We can expect the peak price this Wednesday to be around 219.9cpl again.
Darwin’s average prices rose very slightly over the past week. The current unleaded 91 average is 183.5cpl, with a price range over the last week of 173.5cpl to 199.0cpl. Darwin average prices fell slightly over the past week.
Hobart’s average prices also rose very slightly over the past week. The current unleaded 91 average is 191.9cpl, with a price range over the last week of 174.3cpl to 203.9cpl. Hobart’s average prices also dropped slightly over the past week.
